The Kairos Arts Foundation takes its name from kairos — καιρός — an Ancient Greek word most often translated as “the right moment” or “the opportune moment”.

The Greeks distinguished between chronos — χρόνος — the measurable, sequential time of minutes, hours and years, and kairos: the particular moment when something can or must happen. The favourable, decisive instant.

It is precisely these moments that The Kairos Arts Foundation seeks to make possible. Moments when an artist finds the stage they deserve. Moments when established talent is given renewed space. Moments when new audiences discover art, are moved by it, and feel invited to take part.

Rooted in philanthropy, The Kairos Arts Foundation brings together artists, audiences, partners and patrons around the belief that art deserves time, space and meaningful support. From Antwerp, the Foundation is building an open, international home where artistic quality, generosity, trust and imagination come together.

The Kairos Arts Foundation ontleent haar naam aan kairos — καιρός — een Oudgrieks woord dat meestal wordt vertaald als “het juiste moment” of “het geschikte ogenblik”.

De Grieken maakten een onderscheid tussen chronos — χρόνος — de meetbare, opeenvolgende tijd van minuten, uren en jaren, en kairos: het bijzondere moment waarop iets kan of moet gebeuren. Het gunstige, beslissende ogenblik.

Precies zulke momenten wil The Kairos Arts Foundation mogelijk maken. Momenten waarop een kunstenaar het podium vindt dat hij of zij verdient. Momenten waarop gevestigd talent opnieuw ruimte krijgt. Momenten waarop een nieuw publiek kunst ontdekt, geraakt wordt en zich betrokken voelt.
